This place brought me home in an instant! As Malaysian myself, love how authentic everything tastes! Was on my hunt for Malay food as soon as I moved to SoCal and this place did it for me! The service was great, our waitress seems knowledgeable of the menu and the items. I’d recommend getting a reservation especially on weekends to avoid wait time.

Took my date here and we both loved it. I ordered the Hainan Chicken, went with the half size, and it was incredibly tender and juicy served alongside fragrant rice that’s traditionally cooked in chicken broth and fat, giving it this rich savory flavor that pairs so well with the meat. Also got the Daging Kecap Manis and the beef was melt in your mouth with a rich, sweet soy glaze that had so much depth of flavor. Both dishes were delicious and my date enjoyed everything just as much as I did. The waiters were attentive and genuinely nice throughout the whole meal. Really great spot, highly recommend!

This was our first visit to Belacan Grill with some expectations. The Hainanese chicken rice was enjoyable. The ayam masak merah, however, was quite different from the authentic version we are familiar with in Malaysia, as it was more on the sweeter side. The char kuey teow was acceptable, and the chendol could have been improved with the addition of red beans for a more complete taste. Service was average. At times, the table was cleared quite quickly, and the bill was brought over shortly after we finished dessert, even though we had not requested it. Our dining experience was quite short, as it lasted under 40 minutes, despite there being many empty tables. Overall, the experience felt a bit rushed for us and the food did not quite meet the expectation.

Despite the glowing reviews, my experience at Belacan Malaysian Grill was a letdown. We ordered the Crab Rangoon and the $20 Tangerine Peel Chicken, but neither dish impressed us; the flavors were mediocre and certainly didn’t justify the price tag. It was particularly frustrating that a $20 entree doesn't even include rice, forcing us to order the coconut rice as a separate add-on. While the ambiance is decent and the ample free parking is a convenient plus, the service was lackluster and didn't make us feel particularly welcome. Between the underwhelming food and the poor value for the money, I won’t be heading back anytime soon. Purely my experience.

My favorite Malaysian restaurant in Socal. Best salted fish fried rice, okra with belacan sauce, curry laksa, roti canai and many more. The waiters and hosts are the friendliest people.
